How Lancashire’s
Black Pudding Is Made
Black pudding is made from a traditional mix of fresh blood, fat, onions, oats or barley, all gently seasoned and cooked until firm. In Bury, it is famously shaped into a distinctive horseshoe - a design introduced by local butchers to make the puddings easier to hang, cool and transport around the market. That simple, practical idea became a trademark of the town’s craft, turning the horseshoe shape into one of the most recognisable symbols of Lancashire black pudding.
