In 1879, renowned inventor Thomas Edison used carbon fibre as filaments for early light bulbs. It was only later, in 1963, that RAE Engineers, Watt, Phillips and Johnson developed the high potential strength of carbon fibre, creating a new 'wonder' material that is strong, rigid and light. Notably used in Formula One racing cars, Olympic level bicycles, sailing boats and hi-tech sports equipment. It's increasingly being used by the aerospace industry.
