"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." Charles Darwin

Darwin developed his theories of evolution and national selection in private. He repeatedly delayed publishing for nearly 20 years, dreading the controversy they would generate. For the conclusions that his research had led him to draw were at odds with the dominant Victorian view. It went to print in 1859. The more conservative members of the church and the scientific establishment despised the book. He was roasted in caricatures in magazines. The furore turned the 'Origin' into a bestseller, still in print today!
