the fall of the Roman Empire!

The origins of cricket lie somewhere in the Dark Ages, probably after the Roman Empire, almost certainly before the Normans invaded England, and almost certainly somewhere in Northern Europe. The earliest 'laws' of cricket were drawn up in 1744. The first club was formed at Hambledon, Hampshire, in the 1760s. By the end of the 18th century cricket had established itself as England's national summer sport, and popular in British Schools.
A gentleman's game, now played throughout the world, particularly in Australia, India, Pakistan and the West Indies.
