"My life changed on Monday morning at 9.05am, 10 September 1984. What emerged was the world’s first genetic fingerprint”
gHH
First discovered in 1869 by Swiss Physician, Friedrick Miescher,
called 'nuclein', later called 'nucleic acid', today known as DNA.
DNA fingerprinting has revolutionised crime scene investigations,
has led to the convictions of murderers and rapists, freed many
innocent victims, transformed immigration disputes and paternity
cases. Colin Pitchfork a brutal child killer was the first murder
conviction, Richard Buckland a local 17 year old youth with learning
difficulties was the first exonerated victim, and the first identity case
was a boy whose family came from Ghana - DNA was born!
