Battle of Britain Hero!
Sydney Camm

Camm was described as the Isambard Kingdom Brunel of aeronautical engineering, with no formal training and with 50 aircraft designs to his name.

Although largely overshadowed by Mitchell's Spitfire, Camm's Hurricane was far more resilient, it could absorb phenomenal amounts of punishment, and keep flying. During the Battle of Britain it accounted for 55% of all RAF air victories in battle!

"Adrenaline is racing… flak is bursting all around you."
Tom Neil, Hurricane Pilot, Battle of Britain
Hawker Hurricane LF363 (Mk IIc), was built at the Hawker factory at Langley near Slough.
It first flew in January 1944 and is believed to be the last Hurricane to enter service with the RAF. This extremely rare air to air footage was shot shortly before a crash due to engine failure at RAF Wittering in 1991. The aircraft was seriously damaged by the impact and the ensuing fierce fire; fortunately the pilot escaped with a broken ankle and minor burns. LF363 was re-built between 1994 and 1998 and then re-joined the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight after 7 years out of action.
