George served Britain well.  Freedom of expression became ingrained.  Tories were ousted in favour of Whigs. 1715 and 1719 Jacobite rebellions were quickly squashed. 1720 financial crisis, brought on by the South Sea Bubble, was skilfully handled by the King's first Minister, Walpole.  Strengthening a shift in political power from the Crown to Parliament.

George took a succession of mistresses but raged when his wife, Sophia, turned to a handsome Count. It was rumoured that he had tried to throttle her with his bare hands and paid someone to murder the Count. Their marriage was dissolved in 1694. She was imprisoned at Ahlden for over 30 years and never again saw her children. The Queen that never was!
