2022 Charles III • King of United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth realms

Westminster Abbey

Charles III coronation took place at Westminster Abbey, 6 May 2023. William the Conqueror set the tradition as the first monarch to be crowned at Westminster Abbey, 25 December 1066. The only exemptions have been two kings who were never crowned, Edward V and Edward VIII.

His mother, Elizabeth II was UK's longest reigning monarch, as a result Charles III was heir apparent for nearly 74 years, and was the longest-serving Prince of Wales at just over 64 years. In addition, his age at accession of 73 years exceeds that of any previous monarch.

The only other monarch to come close to Charles III

record was Edward VII, son of Queen Victoria.
