Edwin Beard Budding
One of his first lawnmowers was used in Regent's Park Zoological Gardens in London.
MM
Budding's idea for the lawnmower came from seeing a machine in a local cloth mill, which used a cutting cylinder mounted on a bench, to trim the irregular nap from the surface of woollen cloth to give it a smooth finish. He tested his prototype at night to avoid the curiosity and ridicule of neighbours. Sunday afternoons were never to be the same, reinforcing the vision of England's green and pleasant land.

"Country gentlemen may find in using my machine themselves an amusing, useful and healthy exercise." Edwin Beard Budding
