"I don't want to be remembered as the girl who was shot.

I want to be remembered as the girl who stood up"

Malala is a symbol of the rights of girls to education. The Taliban had banned girls from attending school, she challenged them and became a target. "How dare the Taliban take away my basic right to education."

On the morning of October 9, 2012 while travelling on the school bus in Pakistan she was shot. Critical, few expected her to survive, she was scrambled to a military hospital in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and then airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England for intensive rehabilitation. Malala was just 15 years old.

She is the youngest person ever  to win the Nobel Peace Prize and remains a staunch advocate for the power of education for girls in the Swat Valley, Pakistan.
