Popularly known as the 'Iron Lady'.  Britain's first female Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party. She won 3 consecutive terms of office in 2 decades, 1979-1990, and became the only British Prime Minister in the 20th century to do so. Epitomising a particular school of right-wing politics - Thatcherism. One of the most debated stateswomen of the century, earning both respect and contempt from the public, particularly for her treatment of trade unions. It was as Education Secretary that she earned the name 'milk snatcher' when she cut free school milk. Even in death a much admired, yet controversial leader of the UK.
