King George III remains the longest-reigning king in British history, the first Hanoverian to be born in Britain and the first to speak English as his first language. He saw the creation of the United Kingdom, the loss of American colonies, and massive expansion of the British Empire. Suffering bouts of madness, his son took over as Prince Regent for the last nine years of his reign.
