King George V, was the first monarch of the House of Windsor. In 1917 the British royal family changed its name from the German "Saxe-Coburg-Gotha" to "Windsor" and dispensed with the use of all German titles and surnames as a result of anti-German feeling during the First World War. Windsor was adopted after the Castle of the same name.
