July 5, 1948

On this landmark day, The Park Hospital in Manchester, now Trafford General Hospital, became the birthplace of the National Health Service. The first NHS Hospital to be opened by Aneurin Bevan, Minister of Health in post-war Britain. Manchester has embraced its legacy with pride. Commemorations have included exhibitions, plaques, and retrospectives, especially during major anniversaries like the NHS’s 70th and 75th. The city’s identity as the NHS’s birthplace remains a point of civic honour and a moment in British history.
