Charles Rolls was the son of a Baron with a Cambridge Science Degree. He was an early motoring and aviation pioneer, and an adventurer who took to the air in balloons. Britain's best known car driver, the Jeremy Clarkson of his day, he wanted to sell British cars, opening his first dealership in 1903. Unfortunately, his passion for aviation would turn out to be fatal. In 1910, aged 32, he was killed in an aircraft accident!

Henry Royce was the son of a failed flour mill owner, who at the age of 9, on the death of his father, left school to get a job to help keep his family. He spent his teenage years as an apprentice in the metal shops of the Great Northern Railway but went on to become a very successful engineer and business man. By 1904, disenchanted with the purchase of a second hand car, he single-handedly designed and built a superior motor car. News of this reached Britain's best known driver - Charles Rolls.
