Current record solo non-stop circumnavigation: 2017

Around The World In 42 Days:

Frenchman Sets New Sailing World Record

2017: French sailor, François Gabart, smashed all the odds when setting a new world speed record for sailing solo non-stop around the globe. On November 4, 2017, he cast off between the lighthouses at Ushant Island and Lizard's point on his 100-foot trimaran MASIF. He sped through the nearly 28,000 nautical mile journey in just 42d 16h 40' 35". Shaving more than 6 days off the previous record held by his countryman, Thomas Coville, at 49d 3h 4' 3". At 34 years old, not only had he set an impossible record, he had established new benchmarks at nearly every reference point in his path.

This most elusive of records has been held in the past by Ellen MacArthur, Francis Joyon, Thomas Coville and currently by François Gabart, and it stands at an incredible 42d 16h 40' 35". But it should be remembered that Coville’s record time in his 105ft trimaran Sobebo took him four attempts, and on one of those, he sailed all the way round the world only to be thwarted by the weather in the final days at sea. But more amazingly, this was François Gabart first attempt - the gauntlet is down...

“Looking at Colville’s time, it’s unlikely that I will beat it,” said Gabart
