Who Dares Wins

The motto 'Who Dares Wins' captures the audacious spirit and

exceptional bravery that defines the SAS. Since its creation, the

SAS has exemplified the best of the British Army and continues

to set a benchmark for special forces units worldwide.

The SAS was formed in 1941 during WW2 by Lt David Stirling, a

young officer who believed that a small specialised team could inflict

more damage to the enemy's ability to fight than a much larger force.

The name was part of an intelligence bluff to exaggerate its small

numbers: L Detachment Special Air Service.

"The boy Stirling is quite mad, quite, quite mad. However, in a war

there is often a place for mad people." General Bernard Montgomery Nov. 1942
