Captain James Cook

c

Cook came out of retirement in 1776 to find the

North-West Passage...Hawaii would be his undoing!

c

Cook is one of the greatest navigators and explorers of all time. He led three epic voyages of discovery, becoming the first man to cross the Antarctic Circle. He made detailed maps of Newfoundland. Charted the first accurate coastal maps of New Zealand and the Great Barrier Reef and pushed the borders of the British Empire. He proved there was no great ‘Southern Continent’ and discovered so much more...

c

Cook unexpectedly returned to Kealakekua Bay for repairs to a broken mast. Angry with the natives over the theft of a cutter from one of his ships. He and
9 crew went ashore to kidnap the chief and confront the natives. A bloody
and chaotic fracas took place. Cook met his fatal end, stabbed in the back.
An obelisk now sits where Cook fell.

“...farther than any man has been before me,

but as far as I think it possible for man to go.”
