John Logie Baird

On January 26, 1926, Baird demonstrated the first working viable mechanical television. Sadly, his invention was short lived, electronic television took over in 1930. Not deterred, he continued to work in television innovation, demonstrating the first fully electronic colour TV in 1944. Despite his ingenuity, TV was never commercial in his lifetime.

Ironically, Baird also gave us the 'couch potato'.
