The origins of tennis date back to the  Ancient Egyptians. In the 12th century, French monks played crude courtyard ball games across a rope shouting 'Tenez', the French for 'to take'. In 1877, the first Wimbledon tournament took place and is now one of the oldest sporting events in the world. Henry VII and Henry VIII were avid fans so too are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Wills and Kate).
