John Boyd Dunlop (1840 - 1921)
A Scots born Veterinary Surgeon.
Within a year, Dunlop's invention had made its racing debut on two wheels, was patented and business boomed this time around, handily coinciding with a new bicycle craze.

Dunlop withdrew from the business in 1896, it continued to grow, expanding to Fort Dunlop, Birmingham in 1917 and to Cambridge Street, Manchester in 1939. With WWII fast approaching, Dunlop was mass-producing products from tyres to golf balls, boots to inflatable life rafts for the Royal Navy.

Today, Dunlop have 52 manufacturing facilities in 22 countries: North America; Europe; Middle East and Africa; Latin America; and Asia Pacific. They produce almost 200 million car tyres per year, on and off the racetrack, with sales in excess of $21 billion.
