Women's Social and Political Union

Emily formed the more militant Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), creating the term suffragette movement. She led a passionate group of women who were willing to take part in drastic action such as tying themselves to railings, smashing windows and launching demonstrations. Women were given the vote in 1918.
