The most famous fighter aircraft of World War II

Reginald Mitchell

Chief designer at the Supermarine Aviation Works.

Reginald battled pain and despair to complete the spitfire in time to defend Britain against invasion.  Designed as a short-range, high performance interceptor aircraft with the ability to outperform its German rivals. He literally worked himself to death!  We owe Mitchell a great debt of gratitude.

"SPITFIRE was just the sort of BLOODY SILLY NAME they would CHOOSE." Reginald Mitchell
